Homemade Cracker Jacks

Ingredients

  • 10 c. popped popcorn
  • 1 1/2 c. peanuts
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. dark Karo syrup
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Mix popcorn and peanuts in a 9 x 13-inch pan.

    Keep warm in a 250° oven.

    Melt butter, sugar, corn syrup and salt.

    Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Cook 5 minutes without stirring. Remove from heat. Stir in baking soda and vanilla.

    Quickly pour over popcorn and peanuts. Toss until well coated. Spread in shallow pan and bake at 250° for 45 minutes. Break into pieces and put in covered container.
