Ingredients
- 5 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 2 c. boiling water
- 1 qt. buttermilk
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 pkg. All Bran
- 2 c. (40%) Bran Flakes
- buttermilk mixture
- 5 c. flour
Directions

1Set aside soda water and buttermilk.

2Cream together shortening and sugar.

3Add and beat in eggs, one at a time.

4Add and alternate All Bran, Bran flakes, buttermilk mixture and flour. Begin and end with dry ingredients.

5Add dates, nuts or raisins if desired (I do!!).

6Set aside at least 24 hours (1 week best) in refrigerator.

7Can be kept in refrigerator for 2 weeks.

8Bake in 400° oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Makes 5 dozen.
