Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 2 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 6 1/2 to 7 c. flour (all-purpose or wheat)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. shortening

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, salt and 1/2 of the flour.

    Beat 2 minutes. Add egg and shortening.

    Mix in remaining flour.

    Mix with hands until smooth.

    Place in greased bowl and grease top.

    Cover with damp cloth.

    Punch down occasionally. Refrigerate.

    Use as needed.

    Makes 2 batches.
