  • 1 c. shortening (butter)
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 tsp. allspice
  • 3 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 c. nuts
  • 1 c. jam
  • 1 c. raisins

    Cream butter and sugar together; add beaten eggs.

    Sift flour; add to spices and salt.

    Dissolve soda in buttermilk; add this and flour mixture alternately to egg-sugar mixture.

    Add jam and nuts. Bake in 325° oven for about 2 hours if in tube pan; about 40 minutes if in layer pans.
