Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 stick or oleo or butter
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. soda dissolved in buttermilk
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 c. blackberry jam with seeds or seedless
  • 2 c. flour

Directions

    Combine sugar and oleo and beat well.

    Add egg, cinnamon, nutmeg and beat well. Gradually add flour and buttermilk with soda dissolved in buttermilk and beat.

    Then add jam and mix through batter well.

    Grease pan.

    Pour in mixture and bake at 350° for about 45 minutes.

    Remove from oven and cool for 10 minutes, then turn out on cake plate and finish cooling before icing.

    Makes 2 layers or 1 oblong cake.

    Ice with caramel icing.
