  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 c. jam
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. soda, dissolved in milk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg

    Cream butter and sugar thoroughly.

    Add egg yolks and beat until smooth.

    Add 1 cup jam to this mixture; alternately sift in dry ingredients with buttermilk.

    Beat egg whites and fold into batter.

    Bake in two large cake pans or a tube pan in a 350° oven about 1 hour.
