- 3 c. flour
- 1 c. butter
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. soda (level)
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, cloves and allspice
- 1 c. jam or more as desired
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- red cake coloring
Directions

1Cream butter and sugar.

2Add eggs, one at a time; beat.

3Sift dry ingredients.

4Add alternately with buttermilk.

5Add jam.

6Add 3/4 cup boiling water; mix well just before putting into pan. Bake at 350° for 1 hour or longer.
