- 1 1/2 c. raisins
- 1/4 c. water
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. hot water
- 1/2 c. thick applesauce
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 1/4 c. gumdrops (not licorice or green), cut into small pieces
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
Directions

1Simmer raisins and water for 3 minutes, just until water is absorbed.

2Cream shortening with sugar.

3Blend in egg.

4Dissolve the soda with the hot water, add this to applesauce and blend into creamed mixture.

5Sift together flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Add in gumdrops and nuts.

6Blend this into creamed mixture; add cooled raisins.

7Pour into greased and lined (3 thicknesses of wax paper) loaf pans.

8Bake at 300° for 1 3/4 hours.

9Cut when cool.
