Ingredients

  • 1 gal. cucumbers (about 18)
  • 6 to 8 onions
  • 3 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 c. vinegar
  • 1/3 c. salt
  • 1 tsp. alum
  • 1 tsp. mustard seed
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 1 tsp. turmeric

Directions

    Wash and slice onions and cucumbers.

    Mix remaining ingredients to make syrup.
  3. 3
    Put onions and cucumbers in jug and pour syrup over top.

    Mix well and put in refrigerator.
  5. 5
    Next day, take out of refrigerator and shake well.

    Repeat this for 6 days.

    On the 7th day, they may be eaten.

    Pickles must be refrigerated.
