  • 8 large eggs, separated
  • 1 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 1 1/2 c. cake flour
  • 1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
  • 2 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla or lemon

    Beat sugar and shortening; add egg yolks 1 at a time, alternating with flour, beating after each addition. Add flavoring. Dough will be stiff. Beat egg whites, then fold into batter. Bake in tube pan at 300° for 1 1/2 hours. Then bake 1/2 hour at 325°. Reduce heat to 300° and bake 1 more hour. Bake real slow.
