Layered Vegetable Salad

Ingredients

  • 1 head lettuce, torn into small bite size pieces
  • 1/2 c. green or red onions
  • 1/2 c. chopped celery
  • 1 green pepper
  • 10 oz. pkg. frozen peas, thawed and drained
  • 1 c. mayonnaise or salad dressing
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 10 slices crumbled bacon or 1/2 c. bacon bits
  • 8 oz. can water chestnuts, sliced

Directions

    In large bowl, layer lettuce and onions.

    Spoon 1/2 cup mayonnaise evenly on top.

    Layer celery, green pepper and peas. Spread remaining mayonnaise over top.

    Sprinkle sugar, cheese and bacon over top.

    Cover and refrigerate 8 hours.

    Add water chestnuts.

    Toss before serving.
