Layered Vegetable Salad

Ingredients
- 1 head lettuce, torn into small bite size pieces
- 1/2 c. green or red onions
- 1/2 c. chopped celery
- 1 green pepper
- 10 oz. pkg. frozen peas, thawed and drained
- 1 c. mayonnaise or salad dressing
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
- 10 slices crumbled bacon or 1/2 c. bacon bits
- 8 oz. can water chestnuts, sliced
Directions

1In large bowl, layer lettuce and onions.

2Spoon 1/2 cup mayonnaise evenly on top.

3Layer celery, green pepper and peas. Spread remaining mayonnaise over top.

4Sprinkle sugar, cheese and bacon over top.

5Cover and refrigerate 8 hours.

6Add water chestnuts.

7Toss before serving.

8Makes 8 to 10 servings.
