Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 1/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. nuts, chopped
  • peel of 1 lemon
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/4 c. sugar

Directions

    Cream together the shortening and sugar.

    Add eggs to sugar mixture.

    Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.

    Add alternately with 1/2 cup of milk.

    Mix in nuts and peel of lemon. Bake in a loaf pan at 350° for 1 hour or 2 small loaf pans and bake until done (less time).
