- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter, chilled plus 1/2 stick, melted
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
Directions

1Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

2Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt into a bowl.

3Cut in the 1 stick of chilled butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in center of flour mixture; add buttermilk all at once and stir just until dough clings together.

4Gently knead dough about 10-12 times on a floured surface.

5Pat dough out to 1/2 inch think.

6Cut dough with a 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter or a glass.

7Dredge buiscuits in the 1/2 stick melted butter.

8Bake for 10-12 minutes, until golden.
