Ingredients
- 5 to 5 1/2 c. unsifted plain flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. milk
- 1/4 c. shortening (Crisco)
Directions

1Heat milk and shortening over low heat until warm.

2Mix 2 cups of flour with sugar, yeast and salt.

3Stir milk mixture into that, then add 2 more cups of flour until it makes soft dough and leaves sides of bowl.

4Pour dough on floured surface and knead the other 1 1/2 cups of flour in.

5Knead about 10 minutes.

6Put in greased bowl at once and cover and let rise to double its size, then press dough down to get all air bubbles out.

7Divide in 1/2 and put in 2 greased loaf pans and let rise to double its size.

8Bake in preheated oven at 400° for 20 minutes.
