- 1 1/2 lbs broccoli
- 6 tablespoons olive oil
- 6 garlic cloves, sliced
- 1 pinch dried red pepper flakes
- salt
- 1 cup water
- 1 lemon, juiced
Directions

1Cut the florets off of the broccoli and chop into fairly small pieces.

2Peel the stem and remove the hard, dry end. Cut the stem into thin slices.

3Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat.

4Add broccoli, garlic, chile flakes, and salt.

5Cook for a few minutes.

6Add water and bring to a boil.

7Reduce to a simmer. Cover and cook for about 1 hour, until very tender.

8Stir briskly, causing the broccoli to break apart.

9Add the lemon juice (and more salt or oil if necessary).
