- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup vegetable shortening
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1 each eggs
- 2 1/4 cups flour, all-purpose
- 1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ginger ground
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon ground
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves ground
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup sugar mixed with 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Directions

1In a large bowl, combine sugar, shortening, maple syrup and egg; blend well.

2Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off.

3Stir in flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and salt; mix well.

4If necessary, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours for easier handling.

5Preheat oven to 350F (180C)., grease cookie sheets.

6Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl, blend well.

7Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll in sugar-cinnamon mixture.

8Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheets and bake for 7 to 10 minutes, or until light golden brown.

9Cool for 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets.
