"Mexican Macaroni"

  • 1 box deluxe macaroni
  • 1 lb. mild or hot sausage
  • 1 onion
  • 1 small green pepper, chopped
  • 2 c. canned crushed tomatoes (one 15 oz. can)
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 4 slices Kraft cheese (topping)
  • 2 c. milk

    Brown sausage, breaking it up as you fry it.

    Drain.

    Transfer to a large kettle.

    Add all ingredients except cheese slices and cheese from macaroni kit.

    Bring to a boil.

    Reduce heat and simmer, covered, until macaroni is done.

    Remove from heat.

    Stir in cheese from kit.

    Pour into a 1 1/2-quart baking dish.

    Top with cheese slices.

    Bake, uncovered, at 325° until cheese melts, usually 6 to 8 minutes.
