- 3 c. flour, sifted
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. vegetable shortening
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3/4 c. milk
Directions

1Preheat oven to 450°.

2In mixing bowl, sift together dry ingredients.

3Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal.

4In another bowl, combine egg and milk.

5Beat lightly with fork.

6Add to flour mixture all at once, stirring enough to make soft dough.

7Turn out onto floured board, knead 15 times.

8Roll out to 1-inch thickness.

9Cut into 2-inch rounds.

10Place on ungreased baking sheet, about 1-inch apart.

11Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden.

12Makes 16 biscuits.
