  • 1/2 oz. red food coloring
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. soda

Directions

    Mix Crisco, sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla well.

    Add eggs one at a time.

    Make a paste with the food coloring and cocoa; add to sugar mixture.

    Alternate with flour and buttermilk and next teaspoon vanilla.

    Mix vinegar with soda and add.

    Bake at 350°.
