  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 3 1/2 c. plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/8 tsp. salt

Directions

    Cream together the shortening and sugar.

    Blend in molasses and eggs.

    Stir soda into water.

    Sift together the flour, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt.

    Add alternately with water-soda mixture.

    Pour into greased 9 x 13-inch pan.

    Bake at 275° for 20 minutes, or until center springs back to touch.
