Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. lard (large)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp. ginger
  • 2 tsp. soda (large)
  • 3 Tbsp. vinegar (finish c. with sweet milk)

Directions

    Beat sugar, salt and eggs together.

    Add lard, molasses and 1/2 vinegar milk mix.

    Pour rest of vinegar milk mix into separate bowl and add baking soda.

    Add alternately with 4 to 5 cups of flour to make batter quite stiff.

    Refrigerate overnight.

    Drop from floured spoon and bake at 375° for 12 minutes.

    Nuts may be added to batter.
