Mom's Fried Walnuts

  • 4 cups walnut halves
  • 12 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 quarts water
  • vegetable oil
  • salt

Directions

    Preheat oil in a stock pot to 350 degrees (medium high heat).

    In a large stock pot boil water.

    Add Walnut halves and boil for 1 minute.

    Drain walnuts in a colander and rinse with very hot water.

    In a large bowl, gently stir walnuts with sugar until sugar dissolves.

    Let stand for 5 minutes if necessary.

    Fry walnuts in hot oil until golden brown (about 5 minutes).

    Drain walnuts and sprinkle slightly with salt.
