Ingredients
- 1 c. water
- 1 c. raisins
- 2 medium apples, peeled and chopped
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. nuts (optional)
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Directions

1In saucepan, mix water, raisins, apples, shortening, cinnamon and nutmeg.

2Bring to boil and simmer 3 minutes.

3Cool.

4In mixing bowl, beat egg.

5Add vanilla and the cooked mixture, flour, soda, salt and nuts.

6Mix well.

7Put in a greased or sprayed cake pan. Bake at 350° for about 25 minutes or until done.

8Remove from oven and set on rack 10 minutes.

9Turn out and cut into 24 bars.

10Serve warm or can be frozen.
