- 4 Tbsp. butter
- 2 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 4 sq. bitter chocolate
- 1/2 c. milk
- 2 1/2 c. pastry flour
Directions

1Cream butter and add egg yolks.

2Cream again.

3Add 1/2 of sugar.

4Add alternately flour and milk.

5Add melted chocolate and vanilla.

6Beat egg whites and add remaining sugar to these.

7Fold into cake mixture.

8Last and most important, add baking powder by sifting it on the top of mixture, cutting and folding it in.

9Bake in 3 layers in hot oven at 400° for 20 minutes.
