- 1 c. plain flour
- 1 c. whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
- 3/4 c. chopped dates
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 Tbsp. melted shortening
Directions

1Sift first 4 ingredients.

2Add nuts and dates.

3Combine liquids; stir into first mixture.

4Stir.

5Turn into three Number 2 size greased cans.

6Bake at 375° for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

7Turn tins on sides during last 15 minutes.

8To remove from tins, cut out bottoms of cans.
