Nut Pepper Biscotti

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 c. unbleached flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. coarsely ground pepper
  • 1 cube butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tsp. grated orange peel
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Directions

    Combine the dry ingredients and set aside.

    Cream the butter until light. Gradually add sugar.

    Mix in eggs, one at a time. Add orange peel, vanilla and nuts. Add dry ingredients and mix until blended. Chill in refrigerator at least 1 hour. Grease and flour baking sheet. Divide and shape dough into 1 1/2-inch wide logs. Bake in preheated 350° oven until light brown, about 20 minutes. Cool slightly and cut on diagonal into 1/2-inch wide slices.

    Turn cut side down and bake until golden, about 15 minutes.

    Cool. These freeze well.
