  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 14 ounce dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 12 cup lukewarm water
  • 12 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons butter, melted
  • 5 cups flour

Directions

    Pour boiling water over oats; let rest 2 hours.

    Sprinkle yeast over lukewarm water; stir until dissolved.

    Add to oats with molasses, salt and butter.

    Stir in flour, beating with wooden spoon until well mixed.

    Shape into ball.

    Place in a buttered bowl, cover with tea towel and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

    Punch down, then beat again until smooth.

    Divide batter into 2 buttered loaf pans.

    Let rise until doubled, about 40 minutes.

    Bake in 375 oven for 40-45 minutes, or til loaves are golden and pull away from sides of pan.
