Ingredients

  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. rolled oats
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. butter, softened
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar

Directions

    In a large mixing bowl place 2 cups boiling water and 1 cup rolled oats.

    Let stand 1 hour.

    Add molasses, brown sugar, salt and butter.

    Put into small bowl the lukewarm water and yeast. When dissolved, add the oatmeal.

    Stir in flour.

    Beat well and let rise until double in bulk.

    Add enough flour to knead dough.

    Shape into loaves.

    Let rise until almost double in bulk.

    Bake 45 to 50 minutes at 350°.

    Makes 2 loaves.
