- 1 c. oatmeal
- 2/3 c. brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 c. boiling water
- 1/3 c. water
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 6 to 7 c. flour
Directions

1Combine oatmeal, brown sugar, shortening and salt.

2Cover with boiling water and let stand.

3Dissolve yeast in 1/3 cup water and add sugar.

4Pour into oatmeal.

5Add flour and knead for 5 minutes. Put into greased bowl and let rise until double, about 1 hour. Punch down and let rest 10 minutes.

6Form 2 loaves and put in greased loaf pans.

7Let rise until double, about 45 minutes.

8Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 350°.
