- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1 1/4 c. milk
- 1/4 c. shortening, softened
- 2 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. oats, uncooked
- 1 c. water
- 1/2 c. lukewarm water
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 6 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
Directions

1Soften yeast in lukewarm water.

2Combine milk and the 1 cup of water.

3Scald.

4Pour scalded liquid over shortening, sugar and salt.

5Stir until melted.

6When lukewarm, add 2 cups of flour. Add softened yeast, then oats.

7Add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.

8Knead until smooth and satiny, about 10 minutes. Place in greased bowl and brush top with melted shortening.

9Let rise about 1 hour.

10Punch down.

11Let rest 10 minutes.

12Shape into 2 loaves in greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch pans.

13Brush with melted shortening.

14Let rise about 45 minutes.

15Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until lightly brown.
