  • 3 c. boiling water
  • 1 1/2 c. oatmeal
  • shortening
  • 1/4 c. plus 1 Tbsp. packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 c. light molasses
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 4 c. white flour
  • 1 c. whole wheat flour
  • 1 c. raisins

Directions

    Pour boiling water over oatmeal; let stand.

    Mix all wet ingredients with the yeast; add the cooled oatmeal.

    Add the dry ingredients and raisins; mix well.

    Put into two greased loaf pans; let stand for 30 minutes to rise.

    Bake at 325° for 40 minutes.
