- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. quick cooking rolled oats
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 1 egg
- sugar
Directions

1Stir together first 6 ingredients and 1/4 teaspoon salt.

2Blend in shortening, molasses and egg.

3Beat well with electric mixer for 2 minutes.

4Form into 1-inch balls.

5Roll in sugar.

6Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.

7Bake at 375° for 8 to 10 minutes. Let stand 1 minute.

8Cool on rack.

9Makes 3 1/2 dozen.
