Old Fashioned Stack Cake

Ingredients
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening or butter
- 1 egg
- 3 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 2 c. cooked dried fruit, drained
Directions

1Cream sugar and shortening together.

2Add egg and beat.

3Add dry ingredients together. Add alternately to batter with buttermilk and vanilla.

4Divide into 6 equal parts.

5Roll thin. Fit each into a 9-inch cake pan.

6Prick with fork.

7Bake each layer at 475° for 5 to 10 minutes or until medium brown.

8Cool. Mash cooked fruit which has been drained.

9Sweeten to taste with additional sugar.

10Spread fruit between layers.

11Apples, peaches or apricots may be used.

12Add 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg or cinnamon if apples are used.
