Old-Fashioned White Bread

- 2 1/4 c. milk
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 5 to 6 c. flour
- 2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Heat milk and butter to 120° (or lukewarm).

2Add sugar and salt. Stir until dissolved.

3In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and yeast, then the warmed liquids and mix well (only add about 1/2 of the flour at this time).

4Gradually add remaining flour to form a stiff dough.

5Knead dough on well floured surface until smooth and satiny (3 to 5 minutes).

6Place into buttered bowl and allow to rise in a warm place until double in size (covered). Punch down and place on floured surface.

7Knead for 2 minutes

8and divide dough into equal parts and shape accordingly (rolls, bread, etc.).

9Place into buttered pans and allow dough to rise until double in size.

10Bake at 350° until brown.

11Butter top while warm. Makes 2 loaves or 24 rolls. Enjoy!
