- 2 pkg. (1/4 oz. each) active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 2 cups scalded milk, cooled
- 3 tbsp. white sugar
- 2-1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 tbsp. butter
- margarine
- 6-1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 pkg. (1 oz.) onion soup mix
Directions

1In a large bowl, stir together yeast, warm water, and 1 teaspoon sugar.

2Set aside to proof.

3Add milk, 2-2/3 tablespoons sugar, salt, butter or margarine, flour, and soup mix to the yeast in the bowl.

4Combine until dough forms, and then turn out on a lightly floured surface.

5Knead until dough is elastic.

6Oil a large bowl.

7Place the dough in the bowl, and turn several times to coat.

8Cover the bowl with a damp cloth, and set aside in a warm place to rise for 30 minutes.

9Divide dough in half.

10Shape into loaves, and place into two greased 8-1/2x4-1/2-inch bread pans.

11Set aside to rise for 30 minutes.

12Bake at 375F (190C) for 40 minutes.

13Loaf will sound hollow when done.
