- 6 to 8 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 stick butter
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 qt. chicken or beef stock
- 1 c. wine
- toasted French bread
- grated Swiss cheese
Directions

1Cook onions in butter until soft.

2Add sugar, flour, salt and pepper; blend well.

3Cook 2 to 3 minutes.

4Add stock gradually, stirring well.

5Cook for 30 minutes.

6Add wine.

7Pour over toasted French bread.

8Sprinkle grated cheese on top.
