  • 6 to 8 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 qt. chicken or beef stock
  • 1 c. wine
  • toasted French bread
  • grated Swiss cheese

Directions

    Cook onions in butter until soft.

    Add sugar, flour, salt and pepper; blend well.

    Cook 2 to 3 minutes.

    Add stock gradually, stirring well.

    Cook for 30 minutes.

    Add wine.

    Pour over toasted French bread.

    Sprinkle grated cheese on top.
