Orange Cake-Candy Slice

  • 2 sticks butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda, dissolved in buttermilk
  • 3 1/2 c. plain flour
  • 1 (8 oz.) box dates
  • 1 lb. orange slices candy, cut up
  • 1 can flaked coconut
  • 2 c. chopped pecans

Directions

    Cream butter and sugar.

    Add eggs one at a time.

    Add flour alternately with buttermilk.

    Roll nuts, candy and dates in 1/2 cup flour (1/2 cup in addition to the listed amount).

    Add to mixture along with coconut.

    Bake in tube pan at 250° for 2 1/2 hours.

    After the cake is done, mix 1 cup orange juice with 2 cups confectioners sugar and pour over cake while hot.
