  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. nuts
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 Tbsp. grated orange peel
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. dates
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar.

    Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each one.

    Add orange peel.
  4. 4
    Sift flour, measure and add salt and soda; sift again.

    Add alternately with milk.

    Fold in dates and nuts.

    Bake in tube pan in 350° oven for 1 1/2 hours.
