  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt, added to buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda, added to buttermilk
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. orange rind
  • juice of 1/2 orange

    Cream sugar and butter.

    Add whole eggs, one at a time, and beat after each.

    Add half of flour and buttermilk.

    Beat for one minute.

    Add remaining flour and buttermilk and the flavoring. Beat 2 minutes more.

    Bake in tube pan for 1 hour at 350°. Toothpick test when done.
