Ingredients

  • 2 lb. beef chuck, cut into pieces (beef stew)
  • 2 c. onions, diced
  • 2 c. potatoes, quartered
  • 2 c. fresh carrots, cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces
  • 2 c. celery, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 can sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 5 Tbsp. tapioca
  • 3 c. tomato juice

Directions

    Place all ingredients in order given in Dutch oven with tightly fitting lid.

    Bake at 250° for 5 to 6 hours.

    No browning is necessary.

    When done, the gravy will be thick, brown and delicious.
