Ingredients

  • 16 slices of bread cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1/2 lb. sharp Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 10 eggs
  • 4 c. milk
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1/2 lb. bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 c. melted butter (optional)

Directions

    Put bread cubes in bottom of greased 9 x 13-inch pan. Sprinkle cheese on top.

    Beat eggs, milk and spices together and pour on top of cheese. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

    Just before baking, crumble bacon on top, then if desired pour melted butter over all.

    Place casserole pan into larger pan of warm water.

    Cook in 325° oven 1 hour 15 minutes.

    Until knife inserted comes out clean.

    Serves 10 to 12.
