- 2 tablespoons oil or butter
- 4 cardamom seeds (green)
- 6 cloves
- 1 1/2 inches cinnamon
- 1 onion, diced
- 1/3 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 cup rice
- 2 cups water
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup frozen peas
Directions

1Lightly fry whole spices in the oil or butter.

2Add onion until soft and golden, then add turmeric and cook for a minute.

3Add washed and drained rice and salt and fry until rice is completely coated.

4Add water, stir well, then cover and steam on low heat for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. (In electric frying pan, Mom starts at 300 degrees and lowers to 250 degrees.)

5Warm frozen peas in microwave or hot water, drain, and add to rice mixture before serving.
