- 2 c. dry split peas
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 2 c. water
- 4 Tbsp. butter
- garlic or onion powder (optional)
Directions

1Wash peas thoroughly.

2Bring water to a boil and drop peas in. Reduce heat and simmer until peas can be mashed easily (about 1 hour).

3Remove from heat and mash well to a puree.

4Return peas to the pan and add salt, butter and seasoning, stirring constantly.

5Transfer to a serving dish.

6Serve warm.
