- 1/2 c. white vinegar
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 (1 lb.) can sliced beets (including juice)
- 1/2 to 1 tsp. salt
- pepper to taste
- whole cloves (optional)
Directions

1Combine vinegar, sugar, juice from beets, salt and pepper in stainless steel 2-quart saucepan.

2Add a few cloves tied in cloth bag.

3Bring to boil.

4Boil 2 minutes.

5Meanwhile, place beets in glass, stainless steel or enamel bowl.

6Pour hot marinade over beets.

7Let cool, uncovered.

8When mixture is room temperature, cover bowl.

9Refrigerate at least 12 hours.
