Poppy Surprise Roll

Ingredients

  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 small jar poppy seed filling

Directions

    Scald milk; cool 1/4 c. to lukewarm; add yeast and 1 tsp. sugar and let stand in warm place to rise for 30 minutes.

    To remainder of milk, add butter, sugar and salt.

    Keep lukewarm.

    Add egg yolk and beat well.

    Stir in yeast and half of flour; beat well.

    Add rest of flour and knead until smooth and elastic.

    Cover and let rise until double.

    Roll and spread with poppy seed filling.

    Let rise until double.

    Bake at 325° for 20 minutes.
