Ingredients
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 6 potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cups grated old Cheddar cheese
- Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
- 2 cups milk
- 1 tsp. dried thyme
Directions

1Preheat the oven to 375 F. Butter an 8 cup ovenproof baking dish.

2Scatter with the garlic.

3Overlap the potatoes on the bottom of the dish.

4Sprinkle with the cheese.

5Repeat the layers, finishing with cheese.

6Season each potato layer with salt and pepper.

7Combine milk and thyme and pour over the potatoes.

8Bake for 1 hour, or until the milk is absorbed and the potatoes are cooked through and golden brown on top.
