Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 c. plain flour (White Lily brand makes lighter cake)
  • 2 sticks Blue Bonnet margarine
  • 1 c. milk
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 c. Crisco shortening
  • 2 tsp. vanilla (may use 1 tsp. vanilla and another favorite flavor, lemon, etc.)

Directions

    Cream butter and shortening together in mixer until smooth. Add eggs, 1 at a time.

    Add sugar, one cup at a time, and add slowly.

    Add flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing in 1/2 cup milk as needed.

    After mixture is all mixed, add another 1/2 cup milk with 1 teaspoon baking powder dissolved into milk.

    Add vanilla.

    Bake in large pan, 9 x 12-inch character pans.

    (Recipe may be cut in half if a large cake is not desired.)

    Bake at 325° for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, depending how deep pan is.

    A 9 x 12-inch takes only 1 hour.

    Check at 50 minutes.
