  • 1/2 lb. country butter
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 7 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. lemon
  • 3 c. plain flour, sifted
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 c. sweet milk

Directions

    Cream butter, shortening, and sugar until light and fluffy. Add lemon and vanilla extract and blend well. Add eggs one at a time and continue beating after each addition. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; Add alternate to cream mixture with milk. Pour into large tube pan. Bake in 325° oven for 1 1/2 hours, or until cake tests done.
