Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. cooking oil
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 or 2 eggs (unbeaten)
  • 1/2 c. sour or buttermilk
  • 3/4 c. cooked, chopped prunes
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted flour

    Sift flour with spices, soda and salt.

    Set to one side.

    Stir oil and sugar together; add eggs, one at a time and mix well.

    Add sour milk or buttermilk to oil, sugar and egg mixture.

    Add sifted flour to egg mixture, then prunes and nuts.

    Bake in a greased loaf pan at 350° for 1 hour or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

    If you like frosting, rum flavored butter icing is perfect.
