Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. fine, dried bread crumbs (white, rye or graham) or crushed graham crackers
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 1 c. seedless raisins (optional)
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
- 1 c. molasses
Directions

1Sift together the dry ingredients in a bowl; mix in bread crumbs.

2Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture looks like meal.

3Stir in raisins.

4Mix together the eggs, buttermilk and molasses; stir into flour mixture until blended. Pour batter into a well-greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan or three 10 x 5 x 3-inch bread pans.

5Bake in preheated 400° oven for 30 minutes for oblong or bread pans.

6Serve warm.

7Makes 3 loaves.
